Push button quick release pins give you tool-free locking and release in under a second — ideal for any application that demands speed, safety, and repeatability.
At Roche, we engineer ball lock pins that hold under heavy shear loads while releasing with a simple thumb press.
Browse our full range of single-acting and double-acting quick release locking pins below, available in 17-4PH stainless, 300-series stainless, and aerospace alloys.
Whether you’re securing aircraft panels, race car bodywork, jigs, or rigging, you’ll find the diameter, grip length, and handle style that fits your build.
We have partnered with global industry leaders including Misumi, Southco, Tesla and Foxconn. These strategic collaborations drive innovation, enhance product quality, and deliver exceptional value to customers worldwide through shared expertise and cross-industry synergies.

We’ve supplied quick release pins to aerospace MRO shops, motorsport teams, and OEM design engineers for years — and that experience shapes every pin we sell.
Picking the wrong pin can mean joint failure or premature wear. Use this short buying guide to spec correctly.
Grip length is the usable shaft between the head and the locking balls — not the full pin length. Measure the total thickness of the materials being joined and add a small clearance (typically 1/32″). Too much grip causes play; too little prevents the balls from locking.
Match shaft diameter to your single shear or double shear load. Larger diameters carry more, but also need larger holes. As a rough guide:
Always check the published shear rating before final selection.
Use 17-4PH stainless for high-strength applications. Choose 300-series stainless for marine or chemical exposure. Specify titanium when weight is critical.
Our customers use these pins across demanding industries:
| Feature | 17-4PH Stainless | 300-Series Stainless | Titanium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | High | Moderate | High |
| Corrosion Resistance | Good | Excellent | Excellent |
| Weight | Standard | Standard | ~40% lighter |
| Best For | Aerospace, structural | Marine, food-grade | Weight-critical builds |
| Magnetic | Slightly | No | No |
Locking ball mechanism: Hardened chrome steel or stainless balls retained by an internal plunger and spring. Pressing the button retracts the plunger, freeing the balls to retract into the shaft.
Spring: Stainless steel for corrosion resistance and consistent release force over thousands of cycles.
Lanyards & accessories: Optional cable lanyards, split rings, and retention clips prevent loss in service.
A push button quick release pin is a fastener with internal locking balls that lock against a mating hole. Pressing the button retracts the balls, allowing instant insertion or removal without tools.
Single-acting pins require the button to be pressed for both insertion and removal. Double-acting pins automatically retract the balls during insertion but still require a button press to release — adding a layer of safety against accidental disengagement.
Load capacity depends on diameter, material, and shear plane. A 1/4″ 17-4PH pin typically holds several thousand pounds in double shear, while a 1″ pin can exceed 30,000 lbs. Always check the manufacturer’s published shear rating for your specific pin.
Yes. Quality pins are designed for thousands of insertion cycles. Inspect the locking balls and spring action periodically and replace any pin that shows wear, deformation, or weak release.
Grip length is measured from the underside of the handle to the center of the locking balls — not the tip. It should match the total thickness of the materials you’re joining, plus a small clearance.
Yes, when specified in 300-series stainless steel or titanium. These materials resist saltwater corrosion. Avoid carbon steel pins in marine use, and rinse pins after exposure to extend service life.
